Happy Sunday! Thank you for being here, dear readers. October is a magical month when the veil between worlds thins, and we can almost feel the other entities that occupy space with us. I’m dedicating this month to the macabre and paranormal fiction, so let’s jump right in.
The video above is the book trailer I created for The Truth About Sadie Wilkins serial. Rachelle Henry is a good friend I met at a table reading of my short script, “The Dogwood Forest.” She wanted to be the lead actress in the short film. Unfortunately, I didn’t pursue fundraising, so that project never went further than the table read. Still, I couldn’t let the story go, so the script became Sadie’s origin story. Let me know if you want to read the script, and I’ll send it to you. Maybe it should have a trigger warning. You’ve been alerted.
Back to the above video: Doug Herring filmed and directed the original video for Rachelle’s portfolio when she was around 13 or 14. Rachelle sang You Are My Sunshine at my request, which I added to my edit. I also added stock footage from Canva and one of the images I created for the serial on Substack. I wrote The Truth About Sadie Wilkins serial in Sadie’s voice. So, if this story ever does become a TV series (the dream), I can hire Rachelle to play the adult Sadie. I would love to see that happen. She’s a rising star who understands the character.
Or I could do something creepy and design an AI Sadie like this one. Joking!

In other news, I’m working on my entry for the Macabre Monday Halloween writing contest this week. I love this crew so much. You’ll find a jackpot of reading here. They inspire me to no end. May the scariest tale win!

Another favorite, The Fiction Dealer, included me in this week’s batch of microfiction. I rather like my 80 words prompted by the word “Asylum.” I might even extend the story. Check out the link below to read my mini nightmare and the other spooktacular micro-doses in this week’s Micro-Spooks.

I published episode 8 of 10 of “The Truth About Sadie Wilkins” on Friday. This story is far from over, but I had to find a stopping point for this phase in the character’s life. I’m excited to wrap up the first part, East Shady Grove Cemetery. The last episode is scheduled for Halloween, and then the story gets prepped for print. I’m already outlining the next two books to complete the series.

That’s about it for now. So, until Friday, good reading, writing, whatever makes you happy!
