I deleted my Facebook account (live since 2005!), Instagram, and X profile (formally known as Twitter) in December, which was bold, considering they’re part of American culture.
I don’t regret it one bit.
Freedom from the feed is a fabulous feeling, similar to when I finally quit smoking cigarettes, for real. Smoking and scrolling had something in common, at least for me. They became repetitive habits that turned into addiction. Granted, scrolling isn’t physically addictive. Gambling might be a better comparison to the addiction of social media.
At any rate, letting go of things that no longer serve me is an incredible, dare I say, life-changing feeling especially since I’ve felt at the mercy of circumstance for most of my life, as if I were on a rollercoaster, blindfolded, with a loose seatbelt.
It’s a ‘me’ problem, for sure.
