Happy Sunday, Readers!
I’ve been working hard to get the first draft of my book out for The Creative Company. As the deadline approaches, I’m feeling nervous and unsure. The book format is different from what I’m used to, and I sometimes have to trust my instincts more than I’m comfortable with. But I suppose that’s the point of this new challenge. Anyway, it’s only a first draft, and I have a skilled editor waiting to tear it apart. (Hopefully not. Maybe that’s my inner critic?)
Aside from all that, I managed to keep my publishing schedule this week. Here’s the recap:
On Monday, I looked at Shirley Jackson — The Queen of Gothic Horror. Her stories are invaluable for understanding the power of the setting as a dynamic character. And she knows how to use unreliable narrators to create suspense and ambiguity. I love the way she blurs the lines between reality and the supernatural.
